Visiting filmmaker Nataša Prosenc Stearns
Cold Table Read of Permanent Rainbow,
Her Latest Feature-Length Screenplay (10/29/2025)
October brought us the visit of filmmaker Nataša Prosenc Stearns on an exchange courtesy of the Embassy of Slovenia. Ms. Stearns, who coined the term EMI (“Expanded Moving Image”) to describe her work, is an award-winning filmmaker and visual artist based in Los Ángeles who exhibits frequently in her home country and all over the world. During her time with us, we screened her featurette documentary What is Enough, as part of our pilot nine-month series of film/arts events at La Nacional-Spanish Benevolent Society.
For her farewell, we brought together nine professional actors from our human network, or recommended by trusted sources, to do a cold table read of Ms. Prosenc Stearns’ new feature-length screenplay, Permanent Rainbow. Cold table reads require skillful actors who can bring the text to life, giving both filmmakers and playwrights the valuable opportunity to listen carefully to their words brought to life as an arthouse party. The exercise may bring weaknesses or problems into high relief, lessons that take patience and time to digest. Ms. Prosenc Stearns is a perfectionist and we hope in some way to have helped the screenplay along in its development.
