VENUE: Morris Park, “The Bronx’s second Little Italy” for the last 100 years, first Montenegrin/Albanian community in the US, later joined by Kosovë War refugees in the 90s and now “Little Yemen,” with an influx of West Africans, Bangladeshi and Indian communities, college students and young professionals. A foodie paradise, its Old World-style bakeries and G & R Italian Deli’s novelty Italian Meat cones make it worthy of a full day’s adventure.
FROM MANHATTAN: The BxM 10 express bus departs East 24th St. and Madison Avenue, with stops on the East Side of Manhattan. A comfortable, safe ride lasting about an hour-and-15 minutes takes you to the Hone Avenue stop. FARE: $6.50 + free subway transfer.
Sunday, September 6
VENUE: Located on City Island, the nautical village off the Bronx coastline that recalls New England, this is worth a day trip. From 1935 to 1980, twelve (12) of the twenty (20) yachts that won the America’s Cup for the USA were crafted on City Island, which specialized in wooden hull boats for much of the 20th century. City Island is a seafood lover’s paradise, and merits a full day trip.
