[ARTHOUSE FILM IN MANHATTAN]: “A Night at La Nacional” Ends Pilot Run with Tribute to Tribeca Lab and Its Co-Founder and Artistic Director Alfonso Ramos (Nov. 18)

New York, New York. November 3, 2025. – “A Night at La Nacional,” the monthly world cinema and arts event that has brought new spark to downtown Manhattan’s cultural life at La Nacional - Spanish Benevolent Society on West 14th Street, ends its nine-month pilot run on Tuesday, November 18th with a tribute to Tribeca Lab, a freewheeling space in the basement of 79 Leonard Street which from the 90s to the early naughts and beyond – epilogue to a most amazing chapter in New York City history – bred a generation of performers, artists, dancers, writers, filmmakers and creatives who continue to make their mark in their fields.

At the center of the celebration stands Tribeca Lab Co-Founder and Artistic Director Alfonso Ramos, Esq., lifelong Union Square resident, actor, promoter and human rights lawyer sadly departed in 2024.

We celebrate the generous spirit of Alfonso F. Ramos. Starting in the early 1980s, Al Ramos produced, performed and directed pretty much everywhere in town from the Gas Station down on Avenue B to Theater Row houses:  Collective:  Unconscious; House of Candles; Nada; The Gas Station; The Piano Store; CBGB’s Gallery; Douglas Fairbanks Theater; Cazalle Theater; Kraine Gallery; La Mama; Theater for the New City; The Cucaracha Theatre; One Dream; Franklin Furnace; The Workhouse; Pyramid Club; Area Club; Tunnel; St. Mark’s Church; Limelight; LIU; Triplex Theater @ BMCC; New Circle Theatre (Circle Rep Company); Knitting Factory (Tribeca);  78th Street Theater.

Mr. Ramos founded and built the theater at the Greek Orthodox Church on 92nd and West End Avenue (the American Playwrights Rep), the Broome Street Theatre and Tribeca Lab, where he served as Artistic and Producing Director. He was an investor and member of Collective: Unconscious, and among the NY International Fringe Festival’s initial theatre producers. In recognition of his contribution to the New York theatre scene, in 2020 Mr. Ramos was selected for membership in the exclusive Players Club on Gramercy Park.
